► Mondo Cozmo will be joined by Superet and Shannon Lay at the March installment of First Fridays at the Natural History Museum. The night, March 2, also features museum tours, discussions and DJ sets from KCRW’s Anne Litt and Anthony Valadez. Tickets are $20 for non-NHM members.
► L.A. duo Freedom Fry have announced that their debut full-length “Classic” will be out this summer, exact date to be announced. With the news came the release of an interesting cover song — what they call the #GirlPower version of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros’ “Man on Fire.” It’s titled “Girl on Fire,” of course.
► Rejuvenated rockers Royal Trux have signed to Fat Possum Records, which will re-issue the eight full-lengths and two EPs that the duo released independently between 1988 and 2000. Plus, there’s a new album on the way from Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty in 2019. They reunited to play live shows in 2015 and have toured intermittently since. On social media, the band wrote: “Yes, it’s true we have brought our digital catalog to Fat Possum Records and are recording a new LP this summer for a winter 2019 release.”
► Willie Nelson scotched nine tour dates this month in the southeastern U.S. as the 84-year-old icon recovers from a bout with the flu. A press release said: “He is up and about and looks as healthy as ever but his doctor has determined that his voice needs more time to recuperate.”
