Merrill Garbus has received mixed reaction to “I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life,” her fourth album as Tune-Yards and released last month. You’d have been hard-pressed to find anybody throwing shade Wednesday night at the El Rey Theatre, though. Her sold-out concert included eight of the dozen songs of the new album, along with fan favorites such as “Water Fountain,” “Gangsta” and “Es-So.”
The mesmerizing Sudan Archives opened, performing songs from her debut EP for Stones Throw Records, along with new tunes.
Tune-Yards setlist: Home, Look at Your Hands, Colonizer, ABC 123, Water Fountain, Powa, Now as Then, Gangsta, Es-So, Heart Attack, Honesty. Encore: Bizness, Free
