The headliners left no mystery as to who was playing at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Saturday night. The big stage was backdropped by a spray-painted “FIDLAR” and four tall pillars, each adorned with a papier-mâché head of the band members.
The crowd was already amped when FIDLAR took the stage, with Zac Carper grabbing his guitar, approaching the mic and announcing, “This a new song,” before ripping into “Alcoholic,” presumably off the band’s forthcoming third album. The skate punk quartet continued to play a slew of songs from both of their first two albums, and included a cover of Nirvana’s “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle.” In addition to the constant crowd surfing and brutal moshing, there were multiple requests via Carper for “walls of death” in the pit.
To continue the FIDLAR show tradition, Carper asked the crowd to sit during “Cocaine” before hopping into the pit himself. Somehow the show got even more wild, with some crowd surfers managing to get on stage. Whether he was caught up in the moment, or legitimately angry with some bothersome crowd members, Carper demolished his guitar and charged off-stage. After a long wait, the FIDLAR came back on stage with “Cheap Beer,” and finished off their encore with “Blackout Stout” and the electric “Wake Bake Skate.”
Culture Abuse from San Francisco opened the show.
