Superchunk went small and went big on this week’s visit to Los Angeles, doing a cozy Thursday show at the Moroccan Lounge in downtown L.A. and then switching up the setlist for Friday night’s blowout at the Teragram Ballroom. The title of their new album and first in four years is “What a Time to Be Alive,” and it felt like it in a good way during their 90-plus minute set Friday, which included eight of the dozen tracks on the new album. A little over halfway through the show, Allison Crutchfield joined the band to sing “Erasure.” Bat Fangs opened the night.
Setlist: I Got Cut, Reagan Youth, Lost My Brain, What a Time to Be Alive, Package Thief, Punch Me Harder, Kicked In, Water Wings, Bad Choices, Nu Bruises, Low F, Break the Glass, Erasure, Shallow End, Hello Hawk, The First Part, Slack Motherfucker. Encore: Me & You & Jackie Mittoo, Cloud of Hate, Hyper Enough, Precision Auto
