Taleen Kali releases the first whiff of her post-Tulips solo project with “Half Lie,” from her new EP “Soul Songs,” coming June 22 on Lollipop Records. Produced by Kristin Welchez, aka Kristin Kontrol, and mixed by Kali’s mentor Brad Laner (Medicine), the album was recorded at Sunset Sound Studios, with Kali handling vocals and guitar, while enlisting Miles Marsico for bass and synth, Rhys Hastings (Gothic Tropic) on drums and percussion and Nara Bahama for additional axe-work. A practitioner of healing arts via her Kali Punk Yoga practice, Kali’s new songs touch on themes of transcendence and sonic healing, incorporating Meinl angel tuning forks and singing bowls into the instrumentation.

Combing together elements of pop and grunge, “‘Half Lie’ is about the half truths we hear from others, and the lies we tell ourselves,” says Kali. “I wrote it for anybody who’s ‘caught in time’ in that moment of awareness, transition, or indecision … when we realize we need to break free or change in order to grow.”
