Doug DeLuca’s “Put Me Away” is a sunny 7th chord bike ride through the neighborhood on a warm summer day with an underlying crisp live hip-hop beat and funky bass. It’s one of the highlights from the singer-songwriter’s debut EP “Hit Your Mark,” which is out Friday.

Produced by Louis Bartolini (Blimes Brixton) at Lineage Studios in Hollywood, the EP is a nice mix of neo-funk and soul with smooth grooves. On “Put Me Away,” guitarist Karl Kerefoot (Lord Huron), bassist Nate Light (JR Rotem, Nick Offerman), and pianist Ben Salk deftly accompany DeLuca as he muses on riding the wave of love and trusting all will be okay, leaving doubts in the rear view mirror. He sings, “They can’t catch us now / Cruising out of town … Oh you know we had to take a chance / No, we never really had a plan / Left behind all we ever knew / So I will ride with you.” It’s, in fact, a journey DeLuca took himself, leaving a stable job and security on the east coast to pursue his true love of making music in Los Angeles. A man who walks his talk, DeLuca preaches that people should trust a good thing and follow it through.
