FYF Fest, which was scheduled to return for its 15th year in July with a lineup headed up by Florence + the Machine and Janet Jackson, instead has been canceled. In a report published earlier today, Billboard cited slow ticket sales.
The festival seemed on shaky ground late last year after owners AEG/Goldenvoice cut ties with founder Sean Carlson after Carlson was the target of sexual assault allegations. Helmed by new talent buyer Jenn Yacoubian, FYF announced its return in March with a lineup including Future, The xx, My Bloody Valentine, St. Vincent, Kali Uchis, Daniel Caesar, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Nina Kraviz, Rhye, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Cuco and Youth Code.
An announcement posted to social media today said:
After my consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel FYF Fest 2018.
Our team of many women and men have worked tirelessly on this event for many years but felt unable to present an experience on par with the expectations of our loyal fans and the Los Angeles music community this year.
We will be announcing some special local shows soon, featuring some of the amazing artists from the 2018 lineup.
Carlson founded FYF (then known as F*ck Yeah Fest) in 2004, eventually partnering with Goldenvoice in 2011.
No information was available yet about ticket refunds.
At least Beach Goth is coming back.
