Premiere: Jubilo Drive, ‘Off Satellites’

Jubilo Drive got their start at Chapman College several years ago and in 2015 released a full-length of prog- and post-rock, “Taqueria.” Much has happened since then, which is why the band has been off the radar for over a year. Drummer Eric Cruz died in an automobile accident a year ago. Singer/bassist/saxophonist Hayden Vaughn departed the band. And founding members Jordan Kleinman and Henry Kuckens retooled the lineup, and, in turn, the sound.
Jubilo Drive 2.0 debuted today as an art-pop quintet with a psychedelic bent. The buzzy head-bobber “Off Satellites,” which sounds like something Django Django might have done in their early days, is the new single, with multi-instrumentalist Kleinman and keyboardist-producer Aaron Shadrow teaming up on vocals. Joining Kuckens and that pair in the new lineup are bassist Kalyn Beach and drummer Jacob Lauing. “Off Satellites” is the first of several singles the quintet plans to release this year.
