Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand gave a rousing performance Tuesday night at the sold-out Wiltern in support of their new album “Always Ascending,” with frontman Alex Kapranos taking time to proselytize a little bit on the need for human decency (“God Bless the NHS!” he declared during “Cages”), dedicating a song (“Lois Lane,” of course) to the late Margot Kidder and dedicating another (“Come on Home”) to Patrick Doyle, drummer of the U.K. indie-pop band Veronica Falls, who died in 2018.
As is the band’s habit, they got everyone in the crowd to crouch down low during “This Fire,” before bounding up and dancing during the chorus.
Setlist: Glimpse Of Love, No You Girls, Michael, Lazy Boy, Lois Lane, The Dark Of The Matinee, Walk Away, Do You Want To, Finally, Stand On The Horizon, Slow Don’t Kill Me Slow, Take Me Out, Feel The Love Go, Ulysees. Encore: Always Ascending, Come On Home, The Academy Award/Paper Cages, Love Illumination/Lucid Dreams, Huck & Jim, This Fire
