After Alex Lahey finished her first song Wednesday night at the Troubadour, the singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia, was complimented from an adoring fan who blurted out “You’re beautiful!” To which Lahey responded, “Thanks Mom!” Later in the set, the intimate crowd was told that her mom was in fact in attendance, all the way from Melbourne.

Backed by a guitarist and drummer who also made the journey from Australia, and L.A. local Liv Slingerland on bass, Lahey cruised through a long list of her quick and to the point, alt-rock-almost-pop-punk tunes, including a cover of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” and songs from her 2017 album, “I Love You Like a Brother.” After a few songs, Lahey recounted her first time touring in the U.S., saying that it was good to be back in Los Angeles as it was the first place in the States that she had ever played. She said that she was glad to play at the Troubadour, and thought of it as a “bit of a time capsule.”

The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Veronica Bianqui opened the show.
