Who dares doubt the power of love? L.A. quartet Cold Violets, that’s who.

The L.A. quartet’s new single is titled “Maybe Love,” a earnest, synth-draped throwback to the ’80s New Romantics — a musical coin in the fountain for those who feel stuck between hopeful and helpless. A soundtrack to wishful thinking, if you will. It’s Cold Violets’ first new music since 2016 and the first song from their EP, “Don’t Talk About Before,” arriving this summer.

The band melds the talents of singer-guitarist Sergio Still, bassist Wes Dewberry, synth player/guitarist Eliot Dewberry and drummer Max McDonald. They were teenage pals who reconnected years later, first as a backing band for songwriter Still’s country/folk tunes. Further musical explorations have taken them in another sonic direction as they explore moody post-punk, vintage folk music and contemporary indie-rock.

“Maybe Love” will be out Friday on Bandcamp.
