Produced by Rob Campanella of Brian Jonestown Massacre and Kirk Hellie, “Wheel” finds 19-year-old Poppy Jean Crawford roaming a haunted frontier in the darkness with a possessed guitar accompanied by a vixen named Marlena Schwenck on stand-up bass and a bare-knuckle drummer referred to only as Mysterious Coyote man. The sound feels out there among the tumbleweeds, but the story Crawford sings is as familiar as it is shady. “‘Wheel’ is about that girl we all know, navigating through the L.A. club scene,” says Crawford. “She’s a party girl. She’ll bang your boyfriend then follow you on Instagram. She gets off on it, but pretends it breaks her heart. Maybe we don’t understand her. Maybe there’s nothing to understand.” The song will appear on a 7-inch that she is self-releasing on June 22.
