Meg Myers introduced her sophomore album in April with the soft/loud banger “Numb,” an explosive rocker about needing to get out from under everybody’s thumb. But the album’s first song, and its title track, “Take Me to the Disco,” speaks to a different need: connection. The song, the first she wrote with collaborator/producer Christian “Leggy” Langdon, is cinematic piano ballad very reminiscent of “Mad World” (especially the Gary Jules version). Says Myers: “‘Take Me To The Disco’ explores self awareness, connection and escape. It describes a personal journey through my life from childhood to becoming a woman and the nuance between life or death. These themes are what bind my new album together.”
“Take Me to the Disco” is out July 20.
