Instrumental rock marvels El Ten Eleven continue to evolve. Last year saw the duo of Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty making music with vocals for the first time (the collaborative “Unusable Love” EP with the Dig’s Emile Mosseri). Now, for their new (and 10th) release, “Banker’s Hill,” they worked for the first time with a producer, Sonny DiPerri, who has produced and/or engineered releases by Dirty Projectors, Protomartyr, Animal Collective and Portugal. The Man. “Working with such a talented producer really pulled out our strengths and cut away our weaknesses,” the duo says. “We learned and grew more than we expected to and couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Submitted for your approval: The new single “Phenomenal Problems,” another in a long line of spectacular conversations between Fogarty’s electronic and organic percussion and Dunn’s double-necked axe — all layered through their intricate looping pedals, lest you think an evil laptop was involved. “Banker’s Hill,” recorded in the Panoramic House studio on the Northern California coast, is out Aug. 10 via Top Shelf Records.

Of the album, the duo adds: “‘Banker’s Hill’ explores the paradox of beauty in anxiety, the importance and effect of family and the fleeting possibility of satisfaction. … Some people are running from the current moment, we’re running towards it.”
