Natalie Bergman is scrumptious. She says so herself. And Friday night to a sold-out crowd at the Zebulon, Natalie and the rest of the Wild Belle gang brought all of their scrumptious and wickedly charming delight to an eager Los Angeles crowd.
At the intimate show, which preceded a festival date today in San Diego, the Chicagoans hinted at new material. Their last album, “Dreamland,” came out in 2016, and they released a pair of singles last year.
In their first show since November of 2017 and their first L.A. date in almost exactly a year, the band played through hits from their full-lengths “Dreamland” and “Isles.” Under the disco ball and red lights of the Zebulon, Natalie serenaded audience members enamored by both her sultry voice and her sequined blazer. Brother Elliot Bergman on the saxophone inspired whoops and cheers from the crowd at every solo. Smiling and chatting briefly in between songs, their love and respect for each other was apparent throughout the night. At one point, before breaking into “Our Love Will Survive,” the band took a moment to remind the audience that now more than ever is a time for love. “Monsters need love, too,” she shouted to the crowd before carrying them all away to a tropical isle on the back of her dreamy vocals.
There was also a new song titled “Mockingbird,” which the frontwoman said will appear on their upcoming album set to release “sometime this fall.” Dreamy and catchy and sultry all at once. But with a kick. What’s the word again? Scrumptious.
