The big news here isn’t that SadGirl has made another crackly gem that sounds it was freed from a time capsule buried five or six decades ago — they’ve been doing that for three-plus years now. It’s that the independent L.A. trio has signed to Suicide Squeeze Records to release the new song, “Breakfast for 2.”

It’ll be out as a limited-edition 7-inch on Aug. 17 (b/w a cover of Link Wray’s “Jack the Ripper”). Singer-guitarist Misha Lindes explains that the new song is a “follow-up to one of the first tracks I wrote for the project, [2015’s] ‘Breakfast Is Over.’ It’s meant to be a sequel in line with rock ’n’ roll and oldies tunes like ‘It’s My Party’ and ‘Judy’s Turn To Cry,’ or ‘Johnny B. Goode’ and ‘Bye Bye Johnny.’”
