Stream: Mini Mansions, ‘Works Every Time’

It’s been more than three years since Mini Mansions released “The Great Pretenders,” a pop sophisticate’s dream album spangled with guest appearances from Brian Wilson and Alex Turner. The trio — singer-guitarist Michael Shuman (Queens of The Stone Age’s bassist), bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets) and singer-keyboardist Tyler Parkford — are busy guys, so it’s taken a bit to conjure up more of their breezy magic.
The trio today released the new single “Works Every Time,” a sheathed-in-cool new single dripping with sensuality (even if it might be ironic) and ripped with a nifty guitar solo. It’s the title track to a new EP coming out on Sept. 28. Of the single, Parkford says, “A lot of these lyrics are playing with the cliché of a love song. This is our Mini Mansions cliché.”
The EP, co-produced by Cian Riordan and the band, features Jon Theodore (QOTSA) and Darren Weiss (PAPA) on drums. Ex-Haim drummer Dash Hutton will join Shuman, Dawes and Parkford for upcoming live dates.
