Samira Winter and Triptides‘ Glenn Brigman explore their love for Brazilian music on this unexpected collaborative album, “Estrela Mágica,” out Sept. 28 via OAR. Brigman got into Brazilian music while attending Indiana University, when his roommate left him a collection of Brazilian samba, bossa nova and Tropicalia records before moving to Rio de Janeiro. Raised in Brazil, Winter grew up on música popular brasileira and Tropicalia, with her mother Maristela singing songs like “Ele Dorme” and “Raio De Sol” to her as a child. She and Brigman cover both these songs on the album, which includes almost all Portuguese vocals. As we know from their respective bands, both artists are also fans of fuzz and ’60s psychedelia, which imbues their collaboration with a bit more trippy noise, as evidenced in debut single “Amiga” and its stonder-delic guitar solo.
