► King Princess, who released her debut EP “Make My Bed” last month (and did two sold-out shows at the Troubadour), headlines the El Rey Theatre, with Donna Missal opening.
► Oakland-born soul singer Goapele holds forth in the courtyard of the Skirball Center, doing a free show that’s the first in the Skirball’s popular Sunset Concerts series.
► Rainstorm Brother [see “If I Were the Smoke”] visits the Bootleg Theater. Get there early for Avid Dancer and Boy Choir.
► Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore headline the Troubadour in support of their collaborative album “Downey to Lubbock,” with Jon Langford’s Four Lost Souls opening.
► Send Medicine celebrate the release of their sophomore album “Mermaids on the Verandah” with a show at the Moroccan Lounge, supported by Tashaki Miyaki and Ramonda Hammer.
► Memphis rapper Xavier Wulf holds forth at the Regent Theater in support of his album “East Memphis Maniac,” joined by Nakel Smith, Kate Mo$$, BLVC SVND x Gizmo and Dem Ham Boyz.
► Cut Chemist performs in the Hammer Museum courtyard as part of KCRW Summer Nights, joined by DJ Anthony Valadez.
