The eighth annual Echo Park Rising 2018 roared to close on Sunday, the smaller rooms crackling with life and the Echo/Echoplex hosting some epic sets from Egrets on Ergot, Young Jesus and Goon (best attended).
It was a feast for the foot soldiers who not only attended all four days but covered a lot of turf in doing so.
Other revelations from Sunday: Elizabeth Woolf had an amazing turnout of loyalists for her noon set; Disco Shrine ended their set with an epic group hug; we learned that Jerry in the band Jerry & the Rest is, in fact, the guitar and not a person; the stage at Sticky Rice has a “Twin Peaks” vibe, or maybe that was just during Sam Valdez’s set; and the people in Ramonda Hammer are really good at body-slamming.
And there were these things we heard:
“That song is about when you hang out at home, watching Netflix with your cat.” (Polartropica at Spacedust)
“Silver Lake is sinking. What are we going to do about it? Highland Park is leveling.” (GospelbeacH at the Echo)
“We’re trying out new hats. We’re calling them our adventure hats.” (Young Jesus at the Echo)
“What does your reality look like? What does my reality look like? Are you in my movie?” (Egrets on Ergot at the Echoplex)
Until next year.
