L.A. Eastside indie rock stalwarts the Chavez Ravine (producer/singer/guitarist Manny Nieto, bassist Mando Lopez and drummer Phil Guerrero) have released a new single, “Bermuda Triangle,” as a part of Dangerbird Records’ Microdose monthly single release and live show series. 

The song conveys an image of riding on a speedboat dressed in city-dark jeans and a black t-shirt, gritty and propelling into a wide expanse, sunglasses on. Nieto’s lyrics paint a romanticized portrait of being in love and getting away from it all, singing, “Buried out to sea, just you and me,” under various imaginative scenarios. It’s a new take perhaps on the Smiths’ “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out’s” ten-ton truck and double-decker bus. However, the grunge guitars give the song an identity of its own. And perhaps it’s not necessarily as fatalistic. It could be about being drowned in love in the best possible way and feeling as if you’re on your very own island together. Regardless, it’s a sweet tune that’s like hard candy made of Pop-Rocks, with an innocence and enthusiasm about unspoiled love.
