Shimmering synths, catchy vocals and fun imagery blast the listener out of this world in “Barcelona Boots,” the latest single from Nashville-based psych-pop outfit Arlie. The song itself is worthy of a few head bobs, as the rhythm remains consistent throughout, giving and taking in dynamic range during the chorus.
While the single is catchy enough on its own, the video for “Barcelona Boots” adds a level of lighthearted humor that the band is no doubt trying to achieve. In the video, the foursome are gym rats straight from the ’80s. Hindered by the weight of their gym equipment, they build a rocket that blasts them into space and to the moon, where they can take an Instagram-worthy photo of themselves working out, sans gravity.
The band got its start at Vanderbilt University as the solo project of songwriter Nathaniel Banks, who is now joined by Adam Lochemes, Tyler Waters and Carson Lystad. “Barcelona Boots” is the fifth in a series of singles, which will culminate in the EP “Wait,” out Sept. 19. Recommended for fans of early MGMT.
