The music of L.A. duo Ivy Wood covers a lot of geography. It’s the work of singer-songwriter Julien Baptiste, a Canadian, and drummer Dennis Nilsson, a Swede. Their new EP is titled “Hollywood.” And the music is distinctly Southern blues, mostly of the gothic variety. It’s grit cast against L.A.’s glamor, a tried and true aesthetic that here gets its energy from Baptiste’s convincing vocals.

The video for the EP’s title track, a piano ballad, is a 3 1/2-minute thriller. Directed by Patrice Martre, it stars Francis Goulet, Carl Langlais and Max Lepage as three men on an intensely physical race through the woods. They grapple, they brawl, they clamber up a hillside in a desperate attempt to be first to see … well, we won’t spoil it.
