The weekend’s Adult Swim Festival seemed criminally under-attended, considering the lineup, but there was no shortage of energy from the performers.
Run the Jewels capped Sunday’s Day 2 with a blistering performance that wrapped up a day of the fun, funny, weird, heavy and sublime. Two rock bands — Pennsylvania hardcore outfit Code Orange and Texas metalheads Power Trip — took care of the heavy with their late-afternoon sets. Big Freedia staged a twerk-off; Nick Rutherford invited fellow comedians (including Eric Andre) onto the Calico Stage to swat Wiffle balls filled with cash into the audience; Neko Case closed out the Tabby Stage with a sweet set; and “Rick and Morty” composer Ryan Elder, backed by a full orchestra, brought a full episode of the show to life, including songs such as “Get Schwifty” (featuring Open Mike Eagle and Father) and “Terryfold” (featuring Chaos Chaos).
And some people took a ride on a hot dog.
