“Hey, I think I found my soul … It was way up high on the mountainside,” Dainéal Parker sings in “MNTNSD,” the lead track on the new EP from Lone Kodiak.

It sounds as if it was worth the climb. The L.A. trio — Portland ex-pats Parker and Daniel Alden, along with drummer Andrew Smith — today released the three-song “Pt. 1,” which represents the next chapter of their evolution. Or, as they told Atwood Magazine, “a complete and total rejection of our previous methods, rules, and how we had been defining ourselves and our sound as a band.”

Produced by Math Bishop (engineer on albums by U2, the Killers, Two Door Cinema Club and Silversun Pickups, among others), “Pt. 1” builds on Lone Kodiak’s feel for rich melody and warm, ambient rock, setting free the fervor that bubbled beneath the surface on their 2017 debut, “Feet in the Water.” Suddenly, they sound a little more like Snow Patrol or the 1975 than your neighborhood indie band.

Over a steady beat and a wash of synth, “MNTNSD” offers a soaring piece of rock cinema, the sound of feeling invigorated by a new day.
