Seattle transplants to Los Angeles, pop trio Tangerine will release their new EP, “White Dove,” on Oct. 19 via AWAL. Produced by Sanj and Luca Buccellati (Tei Shi), the album offers pop beats suitable for dancing alone when you’re sad and/or getting revved for some weekend warrior action. Topics include friendship, the messiness of youth and precious formative memories.
“Cherry Red” is the second single shared so far. A nostalgic track about friends on a joyride, the reverb-drenched lyrics describe lead singer Marika Justad cruising around North Seattle in her friend Annie’s red Ford Echo during high school. For the video, in which sisters Marika and Miro Justad and Toby Kuhn wander the beach on a sunny day, the band also drew inspiration from a vampire movie.
“The band all recently watched ‘Lost Boys,’ the 1980s vampire movie set in a small California seaside town,” explains Justad, “and the aesthetics of that really spoke to us so we drew on that a little bit as well. We directed the video ourselves and took turns shooting it on Miro’s iPhone 8 with help from her boyfriend Richie Owen.”
