Royal Trux

The Royal Trux story is as quintessentially rock ā€™nā€™ roll as they come, and it made them underground icons. The duo of Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty ripped through the 1990s, trouble-making bats out of hell given a mllion bucks and permission to spread danger and debauchery across the land. Success, mess and implosion form the arc behind some truly innovative, twisted, mashed-up, genre-blending alt-rock music. After the release of “Pound for Pound” in 2000, the band went on hiatus, but returned in 2015 and played a handful of shows. As time heals all wounds and weirdness between bandmates, the duo decided to record again this past summer and found it easy to pick up where they left off. “Nothing has changed within the Truxian universe we created for ourselves as teenagers,” says Herrema, “because Trux is and will always be our way of life whether living it together or separate. … This is no hobby rock kick. We are long-game lifers with no fear, no regrets and plenty of gratitude for the way the universe has rewarded our singular dynamic.”

They’ve shared two singles. “Every Day Swan” sounds like it was recorded through a haunted washing machine, with only a cowbell to keep this spooky smush tethered to reality. Hagerty sings with the manipulative powers that fuel an architect of possession. In a left turn, “Get Used To This” sounds totally different from that tune. Rapper Kool Keith shares vocal duties with a snarling Herrema as the guitar churns and burns throughout.

“This next chapter is just another perfectly aligned bit of kismet,” adds Herrema. “No concerted effort to force anything forward or to create something with an eye on the past. Only an awareness that the present had come calling with a gift to assist the future of Royal Trux. The true believers that were once strangers found their way into our universe because everybody was ready for it and it simply, as if on cosmic cue, came to be.”
