L.A. Witch

L.A. Witch singer Sade Sanchez’s words are an indecipherable mumble on “Haunting” but that seems most appropriate for a song as possessed as this one. Country-fried and intoxicated, this little ditty about heroin rises from a deep well and intensifies like a dark, concentrated storm enveloping its victim. “Haunting” resides on “Octubre,” a new EP the band is putting out November 2 via Suicide Squeeze, five long lost songs amplified into their darkest form. For this EP, the trio worked with engineer Samuel Shea (Warbly Jets) and producer Gregg Foreman (Cat Power, Delta 72), experimenting with more layers than usual in the studio. “Because these are old songs — we don’t play them live anymore but still wanted them to be heard — this was the perfect opportunity to get experimental with sounds and textures,” says Sanchez. Happy Halloween.
