Danish artist Nanna.B has found a second home in Los Angeles, and her new friends are all over the recently released full-length “Solen,” which came out Nov. 16 through German label Jakarta Records. Each track on the album features different guest producers, including Cohenbeats, Shafiq Husayn, Anderson .Paak, Iman Omari, Mndsgn, C. Palmer, Astronote and herself. The album progresses through songs and vignettes, short pieces and fleeting melodies that flit by like the breeze. The more fleshed-out “songs” take a varied, unconventional approach to R&B, but her vocals keep everything smooth and cool.
On a more spiritual level, “Solen is a (audio-visual) journey beginning with the sun, ending with the moon,” she says. “It’s about my journey as a woman and a artist, searching for a feeling of home and belonging.” The album mirrors her actual experience of coming to L.A. and working with new creative partners while exploring herself in new surroundings. “I wanted to make an album that reflected my journey as a human and artist, the growing comfortable in my own skin, the discovery of my own power and strength, which I really found by moving out of my comfort zone in Denmark,” she says. “Almost like an unfolding of myself.”
