As part of their “I Love You Too Tour” across North America, Southern California rockers Wavves and Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils came crashing through Los Angeles for two dates at the Belasco Theater. The moshing started early Wednesday with the help of San Francisco’s Spiritual Cramp’s tambourine player, who leapt into the crowd, and wildly surfed around on top of some shocked members of the pit. Later on at the end of their set, he smashed his tambourine on a monitor before tossing its remains into the crowd.

After headlining the first night, Beach Fossils played the middle set Wednesday, taking the stage one by one during an “Saturday Night Live”-style intro video. The mid-week moshing continued on throughout Beach Fossils’ moody and dimly lit set (even during the slow songs, a surprise to frontman Dustin Payseur) and came to an explosive end during the higher-energy set of headliner Wavves. Bringing their blend of surf-pop-punk to their hometown, Wavves woke up the crowd who were rocking the barricade nearly sideways during their opening song, and eventually participated in a “wall of death” led by Nathan Williams. In between swigs from a bottle of Jameson, Williams explained that 100% of the profits from the show poster would go towards LA Animal Rescue, and that Wavves wouldn’t be back in Los Angeles for a while due to more touring, and that they would be recording their next record soon.
