Conway has released her first single after launching the Woman Project (an exhibition and an app) earlier this year. Compared to this summer’s banger “Woman,” the latest from Kassia Conway is, on the surface, all sweetness and light, a warm and inviting dance-pop track.

But there’s more than a little subterfuge in this head-bobber — the “Sugar” here is “sweet denial,” as sings Conway, who calls the track “a comment on the times … and materialism, set to cocaine yacht-rock vibe.” There are plenty of passengers on that boat these days.
