Stream: Criminal Hygiene, ‘Greetings From a Postcard’

Like their November release “Hardly News,” Criminal Hygiene’s latest single “Greetings From a Postcard” arrives postmarked around the early ’90s, just as underground garage-rock was becoming “alternative rock” and college radio was a one-stop shop for edgy, intelligent music.
Depending on your DOB, Criminal Hygiene’s new album “Run It Again” (out March 1 via Dangerbird Records) will either spark an attack of nostalgia for those halcyon days or sound as fresh as newly fallen snow in Minneapolis. With its bright guitars and undulating bass, “Greetings From a Postcard,” which the band calls “an observational song about desperate boredom,” recalls artists like Soul Asylum and Goo Goo Dolls right before they became hit-making machines. (That’s a good thing, by the way.)
But no matter its carbon-dating, rock that’s equal parts smarts and muscle should always be welcomed with open ears. And maybe an open beer.
