Dean Wareham and Luna will be the stars of the new incarnation of the Desert Stars Festival. They will headline the festival’s comeback from a one-year hiatus on March 29-30 in Joshua Tree.

Through 2017, the festival enjoyed a 10-year run at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown. Owing to the crowded festival calendar in October (and something of an identity crisis, with Desert Daze also happening in the fall), organizers chose to sit out 2018 and move the 11th edition of Desert Stars to the spring.

In addition, festival founder Tommy Dietrick announced this week, it will be held at a new location. “Our new outdoor theater is nestled in the heart of Joshua Tree and features a beer garden-style atmosphere with structural facades that capture the atmosphere and warmth you’ve come to know us for,” he says. “Our new venue offers a beautiful custom-built all-wood main stage as well as an acoustic stage.”

Wareham will baptize the new stage on Friday night, March 29, performing a set of Galaxie 500 material. The following night, he joins Luna for a headlining set. The rest of the lineup is yet to be announced. Past Desert Stars Festivals have featured the likes of Dinosaur Jr., … And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead, the Raveonettes, Psychic TV, Swervedriver, the Black Angels, Sebadoh, the Lemonheads, Dandy Warhols. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and David J, among others.

Tickets ($75 for a weekend pass; $48.50 for single-day) are on sale now.
