Ears Wide Open: Night Lights

Pop trio Night Lights arrived in L.A. from distant lands — singer Mau Jimenez hails from Mexico, Yusuke Sato from Japan and Dag Eirik from Norway. They met in college in Boston before heading west and finding a bit of gold with the 2016 single “Childish.”
The trio’s new single “Nerve,” which came out Friday and was produced by Brian Philipps (Walk the Moon, COIN), builds from ballooning synths to a guitar solo while Jimenez confesses to an inflated ego: “So hard to keep myself in check / ’cause I think too highly of myself / I know you see all my mistakes.” It’s a de rigeur pop song that stays in the safe zone of your Spotify indie-pop playlists. File under easy on the ears.
