It’s been almost seven years since the last blast of cinematic rock from 8mm, but it’s not like the L.A. duo have been lounging around bingeing on Netflix. The husband-and-wife tandem of Sean and Juliette Beavan have been involved (in one way or another) in cinema. And this month brought the news that the Beavans are returning Feb. 22 with the new EP, “Heart-Shaped Hell.”

To rewind, 8mm debuted in the mid-2000s, releasing the album “Songs to Love and Die By” in 2006 and following with EPs in 2010 and ’12. Their work combines the talents of producer-mixer-composer Sean Beavan (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle, among others) and singer Juliette Beavan, who since 8mm’s debut has juggled acting work for independent films and television. Since 8mm’s last EP, “Between the Devil and Two Black Hearts,” Sean Beavan has been active as a producer and mixer, as well as composing music for film (including teaming up with his wife on the score to the supernatural thriller short “The Cleansing Hour”).

“In the past few years, we’ve found some really cool and interesting new artists putting out very cool work that reminded us of the vibe of our first EP, ‘Opener,’” Sean Beavan says. “It gave us the itch and inspiration to get back to our moody, cinematic roots. So, when one of our outside projects got pushed back, we found ourselves with a month free so we sat down and banged it out. It’s our favorite collection of 8mm songs so far.”

“Supercrush” is the first single, a sleek banger that boomerangs from cacophonous to carnal faster than Juliette Beavan can coo “wrap your hand around my black heart.” The song, she says, is about “that vice or person that you know better than to fool with but you just can’t help going back to. .. every time.”
