Natalie Mering has a voice that could melt hearts if she were singing HTML code, but rest assured that “Titanic Rising” — her fourth album as Weyes Blood and first for Sub Pop — isn’t that. The singer-songwriter announced today that the new album would be out April 5.

She describes the album as “the Kinks meet WWII or Bob Seger meets Enya,” though judging from the new single “Everyday” and the previously released “Andromeda,” we’re thinking Feist meets Sgt. Pepper’s. “An album is like a Rubik’s Cube,” Mering said in today’s announcement. “Sometimes you get all the dimensions — the lyrics, the melody, the production — to line up. I try to be futuristic and ancient at once, which is a difficult alchemy. It’s taken a lot of different tries to get it right.”

One of the inspirations for the album is the blockbuster movie “Titanic,” not just for its romantic storyline but as an emblem of human folly. “It was engineered for little girls and had its own mythology,” she said, adding that “it’s so symbolic that the Titanic would crash into an iceberg, and now that iceberg is melting, sinking civilization.” It’s no coincidence that the “Titanic Rising” album cover is a photograph of the artist in a bedroom that’s completely submerged under water.

A different sort of cinema figures into the Weyes Blood-directed video for “Everyday,” a song “about the chaos of modern dating,” she says. It’s a slasher flick, so draw your own conclusions. Oh, and the name of her forthcoming tour, which brings her to the Troubadour in June, is “True Love Is Making a Comeback.”
