The Kooks on Tuesday returned to Los Angeles for the first time since the release last year of their fifth album, “Let’s Go Sunshine.” And with charismatic frontman Luke Pritchard leading the way, the British quartet dispensed a lot of musical sunshine to the young, adoring crowd at the Hollywood Palladium.
The Kooks played plenty of tunes from “Let’s Go Sunshine,” which is a mix of their familiar pop sound (“Four Leaf Clover”) with hints of an ’80s vibe (“Fractured and Dazed”) along with amped-up numbers like “Chicken Bone” and “Kids.”)
Hips swiveling and bantering casually with the crowd, Pritchard held the fans at the Palladium in the palm of his hand all night. When the band ended the set with 2006’s “Naïve,” it felt like 2006 all over again, even if some of the crowd were still in baby clothes then.
The Kooks were preceded by raucous sets from Barns Courtney and Future Feats.
