State to State

Things we have scribbled in our notebook recently …

■ Upcoming shows scheduled for Marty’s on Newport — the cozy Tustin venue that for the past year has attracted some major talent — will be held at La Santa, the refurbished venue at 220 E. 3rd St. in downtown Santa Ana. OC Weekly has the background on the move.

■ L.A. rockers State to State have signed to G4L Records, a new label founded by entrepreneur Markus Muller-Stach and whose A&R is run up by Candlebox frontman Kevin Martin. The trio is already at work at Maple Sound Studios.

The Jacks are the first signees to new Edgeout Records, a label founded by Tony Guanci and Cheryl Benson-Guanci that aims to develop young rock bands.

■ Just after it was announced they would be going on tour supporting Cold Cave anbd ADULT, L.A. post-punk trio Sextile said in late January they are going on hiatus. “It was an insane ride full of ups and downs,” they said in a social media post. “We played amazing shows and met amazing people. We appreciate, more than anything, everyone’s support for this project. We would like to thank all the promoters who gave us an opportunity to perform. And we would also like to thank the team behind Sextile that helped make this all happen, you know who you are. We will be continuing to do art and music but as separate entities for now.” VOWWS have jumped on that tour.

■ Save the date: The Eclectic, South Pasadena’s Music Festival and Art Walk, returns for an 11th year on April 27. No lineup has been announced yet.

■ Save the date: Pasadena’s Playhouse Block Party will be from noon to 10 p.m. on June 8. The entertainment lineup for the free event has not yet been announced.

■ The good but almost-impossible-to-Google L.A. noise-rock quartet TEST (see 2017’s “Brain In / Brain Out”) have changed their name to Jagged Baptist Club. New music is forthcoming via Chain Letter Collective.

■ The good but rather-difficult-to-Google L.A. rock quartet Velvet, fronted by Emily Gold, have changed their name to Cosmo Gold.

■ Eight years since their magical album “The Year of Magical Drinking” for Merge Records, Apex Manor is returning. They’re doing a short touring stint with Strand of Oaks (with whom main man Ross Flournoy is playing) and there is new Apex Manor music in the works.

■ That’s all for now, got to catch up on Johnathan Rice’s haikus.
