The visuals for Lisa Papineau’s single “Beautiful” show a woman in profile fading in and out of focus, the audio not necessarily in sync with her movement, at one point she becomes completely pixelated. Like its video suggests, the bilingual single (featuring a verse sung by Jam Da Silva) is a kind of vocal collage, the range of Papineau’s voice on full display, recalling the breathy to breaking ranges of Lhasa de Sela and Bjork. Papineau explains her process: “While writing, I could see the physical landscape of each song plainly … an image in the mind’s eye versus a particular chord … It took some time sitting alone in the woods to figure out how they translated sonically. And how all these fleeting images pulled together into one panorama.”

It’s part of the aural landscape Papineau constructs on her new album “Oh Dead On Oh Love,” which came out Feb. 15 via Team Player. The fourth full-length from the L.A.-based native of New England, it features contributions from Tyler Bates (her musical partner in Pet), Juan Alderete (her musical partner in Big Sir), Matthew Embree and Koool G Murder, as well as Da Silva.
