Ears Wide Open: Nasty Cherry

Nasty Cherry

Possibly the most interesting thing about Nasty Cherry — the all-female quartet that debuted today with the single “Win” — was that the press release refers to Kitten as “Chloe Chaidez’s second band.”

However, you might be all atwitter that the project was masterminded by pop tart Charli XCX, who signed the group to her Atlantic Records-affiliated Vroom Vroom Recordings imprint. You might be intrigued by what Nasty Cherry seem to be selling: sex and bitchiness (their description). You might find that this approximates “girl power.” You might be stoked that the pop-punk outfit’s lead single was penned by Charli XCX and Justin Raisen (a collaborator with Sky Ferreira, Angel Olsen and Kim Gordon, among others). You might be excited that Nasty Cherry are fronted by a model, Gabby Bechtel. You might be comforted to know that instruments are being played — you know, guitar (Chaidez), bass (Georgia Somary) and drums (Debbie Knox-Hewson). You might jump at the chance to see their live debut Friday night (see below). You might be titillated by the group grope on the cover of “Win.”

You might. You just might. Just giving you options here.
