The time is nigh, at long last, we’ll all be able to let out our collective sigh with the impending release of “Lux Prima,” the debut collaborative album of Karen O and Danger Mouse. Since being teased in late 2018, the duo kicked off with the release of the title track “Lux Prima,” following up with January’s emergent “Woman.” Now the enticingly toe-tapping “Turn the Light” has landed in time to carry us the final yard until the full-length hits shelves this Friday. Recalling her headspace while recording “Lux Prima,” Karen O described, “I felt more of an urgency to make music that felt healing, for lack of a better word. That healed the soul, and fortified the soul.” Furthermore, ‘I felt at that point, after having my son, pretty connected on a very cosmic level to the whole cycle of life more than I ever had before. I was feeling things in a deeper, bigger way.”

Featuring the impeccably tight production of Danger Mouse, “Turn The Light” opens with an irresistible disco strut that Karen O splashes across immediately. O’s unmistakable voice comes through dryly at a fast clip, each lyric hitting squarely on the downbeat. There’s a determination in her voice that bounces easily off the baseline eventually launching her into a soaring layered chorus, twinkling with callbacks that’ll make you weak at the knees. “Turn The Light,” overflows with a feminine power that turns the gaze and your ears.

Next month, the duo will also present the multi-sensory installation “An Encounter with Lux Prima” (April 18-21 Los Angeles’ Marciano Art Foundation).
