Oft-masked L.A. trio the Cabin Fever (Sean Moriarity on vocals and guitar, Joel Bedolla on guitar and Tripp Beam on drums) specialize in self-deprecating indie rock that weighs heavy on longing and regret. Following last year’s release of their second EP, “Exercise the Demon,” they’ve now released a video (directed by Kevin Strick and Moriarty) for a slow-morphed version of lead track, “B-L-S-H.”
The “Slowmix” version is sonically haunting and– paired with dark hallways, the band in their customary animal masks, playing in front of an abandoned cabin that’s falling apart, with a glaze of bad tracking over it all– the visuals signal the wearing out of memories and hope. The trepidation of looking both forward and backward to reflect on one’s inactions is well-conveyed. The band explains, “The title, “B-L-S-H” is an acronym for ‘Buy Low, Sell High’, which is a pretty basic business concept. The lyrics are about missed opportunities and how depression and the negative feelings we all have sometimes can make it feel like it’s always going to be too late to B-L-S-H.”
Indeed, the feeling of being stuck in the mire and dwelling on missed opportunities as one’s literal dwelling falls apart is well-conveyed. Cue: action.
