West Coast Weekend

Indie-pop quartet West Coast Weekend combines the talents of singer-guitarists Aaron Bernbach and Rob Cunliffe, bassist-singer Devin McNichol and drummer Josh Corry. All hail from far-flung places across the U.S., but Los Angeles brought them together. And it is a free-spirited West Coast vibe they celebrate in their music.

The band, three of whom played together in the pop-rock group Almost Classy, releases its debut single this week. “Heart Attack” is a fun, funky bop seemingly made for skipping down the streets of Venice after your significant other breaks up with you for the 100th time. Like the footloose dance-pop of the ’80s, the song couches its heartbreak in an addictive hook and a finger-snapping beat. No need for CPR here; in this “Heart Attack,” pop’s blood is flowing fine.

The single is officially out on Wednesday.
