Resurgent Scottish indie-rockers Astrid are but two months away from the release of their comeback album “Fall, Stand, Dance.” It’s the first music from the duo — Los Angeles-based Scotsman Charlie Clark and his boyhood friend from the Isle of Lewis, Willie Campbell — since Astrid released their third album in 2004.
The second single “Over the Hill,” out today via Edwyn Collins’ AED label, is a peppy romp crackling with the optimism of somebody who’s been through personal battles and come out the other side. “It’s a straight-up song about recovery,” says Clark, a conversation that sees “someone that’s feeling OK about being sober empathizing with someone that’s still in the midst [getting that way].”
Like the video for the first single “Poison Reaction,” director Stephen Kearney’s visuals for “Over the Hill” feature some spectacular vistas of Astrid’s homeland — along with studio footage of an adorable group of youngsters standing in for the band.
