Compton producer-songwriter Steve Lacy (The Internet, Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Kali Uchis, Raven Lenae, Mac Miller, J Cole, Vampire Weekend, Blood Orange) has gained a lot of traction in his career by the tender age of 20. The Grammy-nominated guitarist for the Internet is a master at smartphone production paired with Ableton and an iRig. Turning 21 this Thursday, the Wired Magazine “Tech Visionary” and Time Magazine-appointed “Most Influential Teen” is embarking on explorations of more adult territory in the new video (co-starring ABRA) for his latest single “Outro Freestyle.” The closing track for his debut album, “Apollo XXI,” out this Friday via 3QTR, the video features hot canoodling soundtracked with minimal electro hi-hat taps and a snappy ’80s-style snare against a haunting synth riff, his vocals split into two verses far away and up close about dealing with the haters. The best solution sometimes is to just sleep it off.
