’Tis the season for surf films. Two new features are being released this month, both soundtracked by prominent rockers.

“Self Discovery for Social Survival” (which premieres June 15 and is out June 18), a collaboration between record label Mexican Summer and New York-based brand Pilgrim Surf + Supply, boasts a soundtrack by Allah Las, Connan Mockasin, Andrew VanWyngarden (of MGMT) and Peaking Lights, along with additional tracks by Dungen and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. The documentary “Heavy Water,” which follows big wave surfer Nathan Fletcher, is out June 13 and features a score by Peter di Stefano (Porno for Pyros) and Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine).

Mexican Summer will release the soundtrack to the former on June 14, and it finds the L.A. psych-pop quartet Allah Las catching waves at a secret location, Peaking Lights trekking to the Maldives Islands and Mockasin and VanWyngarden testing their wills in chilly Iceland.

“Self Discovery for Social Survival” screens in downtown L.A. on June 15, with a live score. Info below.
