Is there any better way to enjoy the open road than to have some of your favorite music along for the ride?

Not for me. Especially when the music is rock — y’know, that genre that supposedly is dead.

So it was like this on some Memorial Day Weekend travels: Like any Luddite who hasn’t figured out how to stream music in his car yet, I burned three mix CDs of songs, all from Los Angeles artists. Since the weekend involved some strenuous physical activity (sports), the idea was to charge the adrenaline and get the blood pumping, no matter how the body felt.

I’ve re-created (approximately) those mix CDs in the new Buzz Bands LA playlist, “Rock Road Trip,” now up on Spotify. With only a couple of exceptions, all 52 of these songs have been released in 2019. With no exceptions at all, the mix is meant for long drives and high volume. Astute followers will note the sequencing, as well as the fact that almost all of these artists have been covered on this site. If you discover something new and delectable, look up the band.
