Branson Anderson

Branson Anderson is a small-town Nevada lad who sounds like the troubadours of yore but doesn’t follow quite the same script as most Americana songwriters. And, when he’s not traipsing around the country with his guitar, toils as a truck driver in a rock quarry.

Now based in Ogden, Utah, Anderson has toured with Corb Lund, Charlie Parr, Brothers Comatose, Sammy Brue and another Utah resident, Joshua James, who produced Anderson’s 2017 debut album, “Graydog,” and is working with the singer-songwriter on his next, “Applecore, Baltimore.”

His rollicking songs are imbued with a spirit of whimsy and wanderlust — Anderson’s warbling voice on the latest single “Don’t Go to the City” makes it sound like outsider folk made by an insider. And “Moonshade,” the first single from the forthcoming new album, chews up vintage country and spits it out in woozy wonderment.

“I never trust anyone / that knows what they want,” he sings in the latter, a slice of barroom wisdom to which we might add “or knows what to expect.”
