Co-headlining “The Unheavenly Skye Tour” throughout the U.S., Coheed & Cambria and Mastodon took over the Greek Theatre on Saturday night to blast their progressive and psychedelic hard rock out into the massive gathering of metalheads.
With the name of the tour being a combination of Coheed & Cambria’s ninth and latest album “Vaxis – Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures” and Mastodon’s concept album “Crack the Skye” from 2009, both acts played sets filled with songs mostly from those records. Coheed & Cambria had an epic 16-song performance that was belted back to them by their dedicated fans. To mirror how they originally toured the album back in 2009, and to celebrate 10 years since the release, Mastodon played through all of “Crack the Skye” before finishing out their set with a few thrashing hits from some of their earlier albums, “Blood Mountain” and “Leviathan.”
Joining the two co-headliners for the entire tour, metalcore outfit Every Time I Die opened up both the show and the pit to start off a sweaty night of headbanging at the Greek.
