Comfortable walking shoes. Check. Earplugs. Check. Easy-going attitude about managing crowds and long lines. Check. A bookmark for Buzz Bands LA’s complete list of set times. Check. Pocket money for band merch. Check. Comprehensive knowledge of the hordes of artists playing Echo Park Rising 2019. Well …
We’re here to help.
Here is our annual playlist of new and recommended artists performing at this year’s festival, which runs Thursday through Sunday throughout Echo Park. It’s six hours and 101 songs deep, and we probably missed some good ones, so slap our hands and leave a comment if you find an egregious omission.
To recap: SadGirl, Saro, French Vanilla, Palm Springsteen, Sister Mantos and the Red Pears are among the artists playing the outdoor stage of the ninth annual festival, which this year also features a screening of the documentary of “Boy Howdy: The Story of Creem Magazine” (and a post-film Q&A with magazine co-founder Jaan Uhelszki and MC5’s Wayne Kramer, among others) on Sunday and also a first-ever slate of family fare on Saturday at Echo Park Lake.
The event is free and most venues are all-ages. Staged by the Echo Park Chamber of Commerce and curated by Spaceland Presents, Echo Park Rising has also started a Patreon campaign with some “friends-with-benefits” incentives.
And, of course, Buzz Bands LA will be back at Echo Park Rising with its annual showcase on Saturday at the Taix Champagne Room.
